The Williamsburg Bridge is a suspension bridge designed by engineer Leffert L. Buck and architect Henry Hornbostel that crosses the East River connecting the Lower East Side in Manhattan to Williamsburg, Brooklyn.  It contains eight lanes of vehicle roads, walkways, pedestrian/bikeway paths and subway tracks. Completed in 1903, the bridge allowed immigrant families to move from the overcrowed Lower East Side to Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
